Aerodynamic development of a wind turbine blade
A Belgian wind turbine manufacturer develops and sells mid-size wind turbines which are robust, reliable, compact to transport and easy to erect. All aspects which are relevant for producing energy at remote locations.
Actiflow developed the aerodynamics part of a wind turbine blade for this client. The main focus in a project like this one lays on the dynamic behavior of the blade under a range of load cases. Using specific software (HAWC2), the energy yield and the loads on all turbine components have been simulated for different wind conditions. Besides performing the simulations, Actiflow improved parts of turbine model where necessary. The results of the simulations were used to validate the turbine design, and helped making integral decisions during optimization.
