Renovation Ahoy

As an assignment for Deerns, Actiflow simulated new ventilation system concepts for Ahoy

Deerns is a globally operating engineering agency, active in the construction industry. Ahoy Rotterdam is a multifunctional event accommodation built in 1971. Deerns was responsible for the renovation of the technical and HVAC systems in 2009/2010.

As an assignment for Deerns, Actiflow simulated new ventilation system concepts for Ahoy. In the first phase, several system concepts were determined by the Deerns engineers. Then, Actiflow simulated the different concepts in CFD. The main goal of the study was to compare the different concepts by determining the temperature distribution and the flow behaviour inside the event hall. Based on the CFD results, Deerns determined the final ventilation system design.

In this project Actiflow showed the consequences of choices made during the design of the HVAC system. This ensured a well-funded selection of the final concept.
