Engineering agency LBP|SIGHT and BIESTERBOS commissioned Actiflow to perform a wind study.
BIESTERBOS is a passionate, risk-bearing real estate developer located in Noord-Holland, The Netherlands. Their attention goes to the perception of the users of an environment.
One of the representative projects is the new built Pontkade located in the centre of NDSM in Amsterdam. This location lies near the ferry landing in this transformation area.
The location lies adjacent to the water of the IJ and is fully exposed to the main wind directions. This can lead to relatively high wind speeds near the building. The function of this area demands a moderate wind climate. The lower level of the building contains shops, creative and hospitality businesses. The apartments above are equipped with balconies and an inner courtyard which must be comfortably accessible.
Engineering agency LBP|SIGHT and BIESTERBOS commissioned Actiflow to perform a wind study. The level of wind hindrance and danger for pedestrians and wind comfort on the private outdoor areas was visualised in several phases in the design process. Special attention went to wind comfort on the inner courtyard. Several design iterations including measures to diminish wind speeds were studied.
As a result Actiflow contributed to the perception of the outdoor area and thus to the value of the development.
