Development of the ICTroom IMD

Actiflow was asked to perform several CFD simulations to validate the new design concept

ICTroom is a company specialized in the design and maintenance of datacentres. Part of their portfolio is the ICTroom Integrated Modular Datacentre or ICTroom IMD.

The ICTroom IMD is a scalable, sustainable and standardized concept for the design and realization of datacentres. A standard toolkit is provided to compose the datacentre from several modules. Approximately 80 % of the components are predesigned and can be prefabricated.

An important component in the toolkit is the climate system. This system must supply the white spaces with a sufficient amount of cooled air with the correct relative humidity. Actiflow was asked to perform several CFD simulations to validate the new design concept. The goal was to give insight in possible risks regarding the airflow and the occurrence of hot spots in different operating modes. Several boundary conditions were adjusted to give insight into the effect of different ICT loads and emergency scenario’s.

The results of the analysis was used by ICTroom to justify its concept.
